Pakistan Hails US–Iran Truce Extension
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that he extended gratitude to US President Donald Trump for agreeing to Islamabad’s request to prolong the ceasefire in the ongoing conflict with Iran.
In a message shared on the social media platform X, Sharif stated, “On my personal behalf and on behalf of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, I sincerely thank President Trump for graciously accepting our request to extend the ceasefire to allow ongoing diplomatic efforts to take their course.”
His comments followed Trump’s earlier announcement that the ceasefire would be extended to give Iran additional time to formulate what he described as a “unified proposal,” following appeals from Pakistani officials.
Sharif emphasized that Pakistan would continue supporting diplomatic engagement aimed at resolving the conflict, stating that the country remains committed to facilitating negotiations.
He also expressed hope that both sides would maintain the ceasefire and work toward reaching what he described as a comprehensive “Peace Deal” during upcoming talks scheduled to take place in Islamabad. According to him, the goal of these discussions is to secure a permanent end to the conflict through dialogue rather than escalation.
The statement reflects Pakistan’s ongoing role in mediating communication between Washington and Tehran as diplomatic efforts continue amid a fragile regional security environment.
